Property description

Since 1979, and now in its third generation, Autowaschcenter Halbe has stood for modern technology, customer-oriented service, and a high standard of cleaning – both in the convenient textile car wash and the flexible self-service area, where vehicles can be thoroughly cleaned inside and out. Particular emphasis is placed on sustainability, environmental protection, and hygiene. Driven by continuous growth and the construction of its new premises, including the technical facilities, in 2017, the car wash facility has successfully established itself as the market leader in the Olpe region.

The challenge

The challenge for Autowaschcenter Halbe was to ensure permanent, compliant protection of the drinking water supply without disrupting the smooth operation of the car wash line. This specific application required a solution that guarantees the highest level of separation between drinking water and non-potable water – regardless of pressure fluctuations or operating conditions.

This is because car wash facilities are subject to exceptionally stringent drinking water protection requirements, as the wash water can come into contact with cleaning agents, chemicals, and microbiological contaminants (such as road grime, animal faeces, or as a result of collisions with wildlife). Because the facility is permanently connected to the domestic hot water system, pressure fluctuations or system malfunctions create an inherent risk of the contaminated wash water flowing back into the drinking water installation. Even the smallest amounts of backflow can contaminate the entire domestic cold water system – with potential consequences extending far beyond the facility’s site.

Bottom line: a high risk to drinking water hygiene and, consequently, to human health.

The solution

The KEMPER FK-5 break tank station used here offers maximum safety for Autowaschcenter Halbe. The product reliably separates drinking water from non-potable water in accordance with DIN EN 1717 and is specifically configured for applications involving Category 5 fluids. At the heart of this solution is the integrated Type AB free-flow drain, which creates a physical divide between the domestic hot water system and the car wash line. This reliably prevents water containing chemicals and microbiological contaminants from flowing back into the domestic hot water system in the event of pressure fluctuations or system malfunctions.
